MEN’S TENNIS TRAVELS TO TENNESSEE FOR THREE WEEKEND MATCHES

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama No. 47 men's tennis team will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for three matches this weekend, starting with the host school Middle Tennessee on Friday at 2:00 p.m. The Jaguars will face intrastate foe UAB on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and Valparaiso on Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

"This weekend will be tough playing three matches in three days," said South Alabama head coach Nick Brochu. "But I believe we are in shape and it shouldn't be a problem. We need to finish the season strong heading to the Sun Belt Tournament. We will face UAB again and two other strong teams. We know Middle Tennessee well from when they were in the Sun Belt Conference, and the school has been a long time rival. This will be the first time we've ever faced Valparaiso and the match should be interesting.

The Jags have been off for a week, with their previous match played last Friday.  South Alabama dropped a neutral site match in New Orleans to Dartmouth 4-2.

Middle Tennessee enters the weekend with a 7-11 record and a two-match win streak. The Blue Raiders played in a C-USA Pod at then No. 39 Old Dominion.  Middle Tennessee fell 4-3 to the host school but then defeated Charlotte 6-1 and Florida Atlantic 4-3.

South Alabama has a 14-9 record against Middle Tennessee but has dropped five-straight matches to the Blue Raiders.

UAB owns a 9-6 record this spring season and has won four of its past five matches.  Last week at home the Blazers topped Sun Belt member Georgia Southern 4-3 and Alabama A&M 5-0.

Earlier this season South Alabama won 4-1 at UAB on Feb. 25th. The Jags won the doubles point, and Juan Cruz Soria, Tuki Jacobs and Lucas Gonzalez won their singles matches. The Jags have won 23 of the 33 matches against the Blazers, including 16 of the past 19 meetings.

Valparaiso sports a 16-1 record this season, and its only loss came at Wisconsin (4-3) on Jan. 28th. The Crusaders have since won 15-straight matches and swept both Youngstown State and Cleveland State 7-0 last weekend.
