NEW ORLEANS — University of South Alabama track and field thrower Zach Blahnik was named the Sun Belt Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, as announced by the league office.
Blahnik paced the Jaguars in the men's throws this past weekend at the Jaguar Classic. The redshirt senior posted one victory in the men's hammer throw (62.16m) and two second-place marks in shot put (15.45m) and discus (49.12m).
The Green Bay, Wis., native ranks in the league's top 10 for all three events: second in hammer, third in discus and seventh in shot put. Blahnik's shot put and discus personal-best marks move him to eighth and seventh on the Jaguars' all-time list for the events, respectively.
South Alabama will have their first away outdoor meet Friday, March 25 at the Samford Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
