WOMEN’S TENNIS HEADS OUT ON THE ROAD FOR UNLV INVITATIONAL

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama's women's tennis team will travel to Las Vegas to take part in the UNLV Invitational at the Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex this weekend.

The Jaguars will send sophomores Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) and Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia), and seniors Monica Mitta (Fairhope, Ala.) and Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia). Stiteler and Matuskova led USA in singles last season with records of 28-6 and 25-7, respectively.

"We're a great front-running team," said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. "We've got the talent, but we still have to get better playing from behind and working ourselves through tough situations within matches."

Additionally, Zolotareva is coming off a first place finish in singles at the Thomasville Invitational on Sept. 10-11. She defeated her teammate, freshman Malika Auger-Aliassime (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) 7-6, 6-0, in the finals.

"We're looking forward to this weekend," said Keyser. "We've been practicing really well, and it's more about competing."

The other teams attending the UNLV-hosted tournament include USC, Long Beach State, Fresno State, Northern Arizona, and Washington State.

"There is some great competition out there, and it's a good opportunity for us to try to insert what we have been practicing within a match situation," Keyser said.
