NO. 23 JAGS HIT THE ROAD TO FACE ALABAMA

MOBILE, Ala. – The 23rd-ranked University of South Alabama baseball team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. contest with Alabama at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

The game will be streamed live by SEC Network +, and can be accessed via WatchESPN.com. It will also be broadcast live on 99.5 FM The Jag, and available through the iHeartRadio app. Live stats for every Jaguar game are available at USAJaguars.com, while in-game updates are provided through the Jaguar baseball Twitter account (@SouthALBaseball).

USA right-hander Randy Bell (2-1) will make his fifth start of the season in the contest. Bell tossed his first career complete game in his last start against Southeastern Louisiana last Tuesday at Stanky Field. He allowed one run on just four hits in nine innings pitched to secure his second win of the season. In his last two starts, Bell has struck out 14 batters and issued three walks while allowing three earned runs in 17 innings pitched.

Alabama (22-14) will counter with right-hander Kyle Cameron (2-1) who has 11 strikeouts against nine walks and combined for one shutout in 16 innings pitched this season. Wednesday's start will mark the first for the freshman this season after nine relief appearances.

USA will look to rebound from its first Sun Belt Conference series loss of the season after dropping two of three games at Appalachian State last weekend in Boone, N.C.

South Alabama leads the SBC in walks (201) — which ranks sixth nationally — runs scored (242), RBI (216), sacrifice flies (22), stolen bases (61) and steal attempts (85) entering the week. USA ranks 10th nationally in sacrifice flies, and 22nd in stolen bases. South Alabama is tied for the SBC lead in fielding percentage (.975), while the Jaguar pitching staff ranks second in the league in fewest runs allowed (149).

Drew LaBounty is tied for the SBC lead in sacrifice flies (6), which ranks fifth nationally, tied for second in walks (28), tied for third in stolen bases (9), ranks fifth in on-base percentage (.457) and tied for sixth in RBI (30). Center fielder Cole Billingsley leads the Sun Belt in stolen bases (17), and is tied with LaBounty for the league lead in sacrifice flies (6).  He ranks tied for fourth in sacrifice bunts (8).

Danny Martinez ranks fourth in the league in RBI (33), while Travis Swaggerty is tied for second in the conference with LaBounty in walks (28), tied for third with LaBounty in stolen bases (9), ranks fifth in runs scored (34) and sixth in on-base percentage (.452). Swaggerty carries a nine-game hitting streak and 21-game on-base streak into Wednesday's contest. He is batting .375 with two doubles, four RBI, 10 runs scored and three stolen bases while posting a .457 on-base percentage during his hitting streak. Jared Barnes ranks tied for sixth in the SBC in home runs (6), and is seventh in slugging percentage (.544).

Left-hander James Traylor ranks tied for fourth in the Sun Belt in wins (5), and southpaw Shane McKinley enters the week ranked fourth in the league in saves (6).

Alabama holds a 56-46 all-time lead over South Alabama in a series that dates back to 1967. The Jaguars defeated the Crimson Tide 3-0 last season at Stanky Field, with right-handers Austin Bembnowski and Ben Taylor, and left-hander Austin Stephens combining for the shutout. That victory snapped a three-game losing skid to UA. South Alabama fell 4-3 in its last visit to Tuscaloosa, which came in head coach Mark Calvi's first season in 2012.

The Crimson Tide took two of three games from Mississippi last weekend in Tuscaloosa, and has won four of its last five contests entering Wednesday's matchup. Alabama is hitting .251 as a team, and is led by Chance Vincent who leads the squad in batting average (.302) and RBI (22), and shares the team lead in hits (39) with Cobie Vance. Chandler Taylor and Will Haynie share the team lead in home runs with four apiece.
