WOMEN’S TENNIS HEADS OUT FOR MATCHES AGAINST TROY AND SOUTHERN MISS

MOBILE, Ala. – Holders of a six-match win streak, the University of South Alabama women's tennis team will travel to its next two contests this week at Troy and Southern Miss.

The 43rd-ranked Jaguars will take on Troy Wednesday at 2 p.m., and Southern Miss on Saturday at 11 a.m.

"Both teams are having a good year," USA head coach Jaco Keyser said. "Obviously Troy has some conference implications and they're playing some good tennis. Southern Miss is having one of their better years of late, so there are going to be some good matches this week."

South Alabama (16-4) extended its streak with a pair of wins last week, defeating Miami (Ohio) 5-2 at home before downing Georgia Southern 4-0 in Troy. USA has now won 15 of its last 16 matches.

Individually, freshman Alexandria Stiteler (Bradenton, Fla.) has won 15 matches in a row, with 13 of the last 14 coming in straight sets. She has lost no more than three games in any of her last 10 sets.

Keeping pace with Stiteler is junior Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia), who has won her last 12 singles outings, and is 7-2 this spring in doubles with freshman Alina Zolotareva (Barnaul, Russia).

Both opponents come into their respective matches on hot streaks. Troy (10-4) has five of its last six matches, and briefly appeared in the ITA rankings, getting as high as No. 73.

The Trojans are at their strongest in the middle of the lineup, posting a 27-12 mark on courts 3-5, led by Sanae Ohta's 9-2 record at No. 4.

"They have some good talent," Keyser said. "It's a young team of good talent and they've had some good wins along the way, so it'll be interesting to see how we do against them."

Southern Miss (14-2) has won six consecutive matches – the last four by shutout – and opened the year with seven straight victories.

The Golden Eagles are a combined 30-10 in doubles this year – 12-2 and 13-2 at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively – and have three players with singles win streaks of five or more.

"This will be a good test because they've been playing good doubles," Keyser noted. "They usually have good doubles and they have good, talented players on their team.

"Overall, I think it will be a good trial run for the conference tournament coming up."
