NOYON EARNS VICTORY IN No. 74 MEN’S TENNIS LOSS

Results

MOBILE, Ala. – The No. 74 University of South Alabama men's tennis team fell to No. 75 North Florida 6-1 Sunday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

With the loss, the Jaguars dropped to 8-6 on the season, while the Ospreys improved to 3-7.

"North Florida played really well," said head coach Nick Brochu. "UNF is a good team, and we always have a great battle with them every year. They just played very aggressive."

Jonathan Deautriell and Sahil Deshmukh defeated senior Juan Troglia (Mendoza, Argentina) and freshman Lucas Gonzalez (Chateauroux, France) 6-2 at the No. 3 court to begin doubles. At No. 2, Lasse Muscheites and Zach Goldberg beat junior Pierre Noyon (Oye-Plage, France) and junior Dallas Teague (Spanish Fort, Ala.) 6-2 to secure the doubles point for North Florida.

"I thought we had our chances in doubles," Brochu said. "We were up on two courts, and that's where we should have taken it. It's only one point, but it gets you a little momentum."

In singles, Deshmukh topped Teague 6-3, 6-1 at court No. 6. At the No. 2 court, Julian Bradley beat Troglia 6-4, 6-2 to give the Ospreys a 3-0 lead.

Yannick Zuern clinched the win for UNF by defeating junior Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia) 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1.

"For us, as soon as we started losing a few first sets, that's where the guys saw it bigger and more challenging than it should be," said Brochu.

Noyon took the only point for the Jags by dropping Deautriell 6-4, 6-3 at court No. 4. To end the match, Goldberg won 6-3, 6-3 over Gonzalez at No. 5, and Muscheites defeated sophomore Olivier Gingras (Quebec, Canada) 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), (10-5) at the No. 3 court.

"We're leaving soon for our next tournament in Texas, but we've got to get back to work tomorrow, make sure we have good conditioning in the morning, and a good practice in the afternoon," Brochu said. "We've got to do this for a couple days to make sure that we're sharp because right now, the last thing you want is the guys doubting our potential and how we should compete. We just have to get back on the court and work hard."

The Jaguars return to action Friday when they travel to Corpus Christi, Texas for the H-E-B Invitational.
