NEW ORLEANS – Coming off a title at the 2014 meet, the University of South Alabama men's cross country squad was selected to finish second at this fall's Sun Belt Conference Championship, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Jaguars garnered 70 points — including a pair of first-place votes — to finish tied in the poll with Appalachian State. The two schools were just one point behind the projected winner, Texas-Arlington.
The Jag women received a total of 63 points in voting conducting among Sun Belt head coaches, placing sixth among the 11 schools set to participate in the meet. App State was chosen to finish first after collecting 115 points, two more than second-place UTA.
The 2015 SBC Championships are scheduled to be hosted by Georgia State in Atlanta on Sunday, Nov. 1 in Atlanta. The NCAA South Regional will be held in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Nov. 13, with the NCAA Championships set for Nov. 23 in Terre Haute Ind.
After winning last fall's conference championship, the Jaguar men placed 12th at the regional meet while then-junior Christoph Graf advanced to the NCAA Championships individually. USA's women's squad placed seventh at the SBC Championships.
