MEN’S TENNIS HEADS TO VIRGINIA TO FACE OLD DOMINION AND UAB

MOBILE, Ala. – With their spring season drawing towards an end, the University of South Alabama men's tennis team heads to Norfolk, Va. for their final weekend road trip before the Sun Belt Conference tournament.

The Jaguars, ranked No. 66 in the nation, will face Old Dominion on Friday at 2 p.m. and UAB on Saturday at 9 a.m.

South Alabama is currently 11-7 in their spring campaign, after winning the 2015 Middle Tennessee Shootout last weekend. USA posted a 3-0 mark in the tournament with victories over Southern Illinois, Southern Miss and ODU.

Senior Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany) continues to shine for the Jags after picking up his second-consecutive Sun Belt Player of the Week award on Wednesday, his fourth of the season. Leitner, ranked No. 98, is 13-4 overall, including a three-match win streak at No. 1. He is also 4-1 against ranked opponents this season.

USA took the lead in the all-time series 3-2 with ODU after a 4-2 win at the MT Shootout, snapping Old Dominion's five-match win streak. The Monarchs are 12-2 overall, with a 4-0 mark in home matches. ODU's top player, No. 102 Carlos Lopez Villa, fell 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 to Leitner last weekend.

"I think going into the weekend, especially since we are playing Old Dominion again, the doubles point is going to be huge," said USA head coach Nick Brochu. "We won the doubles point this past weekend and won the match, so I think if we can win the doubles point it will send the message that we plan on doing the exact same thing."

The Blazers are 5-8 in their spring season and have dropped their last three matches. Christopher Morriss leads UAB with a 5-2 mark at the No. 6 spot. The Jaguars defeated the Blazers 4-3 last April when the two teams met for the 30th time. South Alabama leads the all-time series 21-9.

"UAB is always competitive with us," said Brochu. "Last year we did great and I think the goal against UAB is to show that we have a lot of depth. UAB is tough on top, but they are not as deep as we are. So I think if we can show that we can get some points in the bottom of the lineup, that will be the key to beating a good UAB team."
