MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama baseball will travel to Jonesboro, Ark., for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series with Arkansas State.
The series will kick off at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by game two Saturday at 6 p.m. Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m.
USA (20-10, 7-5 SBC) will send right-hander Kevin Hill (3-0) to the mound in the opener. Hill carries a scoreless streak of 15 innings into the game, and has not allowed a run in his last two starts. Right-hander Austin Bembnowski (2-2) will get the start for the Jaguars in game two. Bembnowski tossed five scoreless innings against Alabama in his last start, and allowed just two hits with five strikeouts and one walk. USA has not announced a starter for the series finale.
Arkansas State (12-15, 3-8 SBC) will send right-hander Tyler Zuber (3-2) to the mound in the opener, followed by southpaw Jon Glidewell (2-0) in game two. Right-hander David Owen (2-3) will start the series finale for the Red Wolves.
South Alabama leads the Sun Belt in batting average (.290), on-base percentage (.389), hits (299), walks (136) and stolen bases (44), and is tied with Georgia State for the league lead in runs scored (171).
The Jaguar pitching staff leads the conference in ERA (3.25), strikeouts (227) and runs allowed (117), while the USA defense leads the SBC with a .977 fielding percentage. South Alabama has committed just two errors in its last seven games, which covers a span of 65 innings.
Bud Collura ranks second in the conference in hits (40), and Adam Ballew is tied for fourth in RBI (24) entering the weekend. USA has won five of its last six contests heading into the series.
ASU enters the weekend with a .259 team batting average, and 3.96 team ERA. The Red Wolves have not won a Sun Belt Conference series this season, and have dropped three of their last four games.
