MEN’S TENNIS RETURNS HOME TO FACE ALABAMA STATE TUESDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – Coming off a successful weekend in Iowa, the University of South Alabama men's tennis team looks to earn their fourth straight win as they host Alabama State on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.

USA leads the all-time series with ASU 2-0. The two teams met last spring, when the Jags downed the Hornets 6-1.

South Alabama enters the match with a 5-2 mark in their spring campaign, after going 2-0 against Missouri-Kansas City and Drake, Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The Jaguars picked up a 5-2 win over the Kangaroos before edging the 41st-ranked Bulldogs 4-3.

"We had a great weekend," said USA head coach Nick Brochu. "The guys are hitting the ball well and are confident."

Senior Daniel Leitner (Niederfischbach, Germany), ranked No. 113, went 2-0 on the weekend, including a 7-5, 6-1, 6-3 victory over No. 30 Ben Lott of Drake at the No. 1 spot, and improved his win streak to four matches. Junior Tim Srkala (Brno, Czech Republic) picked up two straight-sets wins on the weekend, dropping a total of only nine games.

Alabama State currently posts an 0-3 record, falling to Mississippi State, Georgia Southern and Southern Miss. Takura Mlambo picked up the only victory for the Hornets with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 over Christian Kerrigan of Georgia Southern.

"We need to make sure that we do not underestimate Alabama State," said Brochu. "They may not be ranked, but they have good players. Once again, a quick doubles point will be our first goal. In singles, we need to establish our game and execute it well."
