USA WOMEN’S TENNIS TRAVELS TO GEORGIA THIS WEEKEND

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women's tennis team take its unbeaten record to Kennesaw, Ga. for a pair of matches starting Friday.

The Jaguars will face Charleston Southern at noon on Friday and host Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Jags will be meeting each opponent for the first time.

USA has dropped just two points in four matches this season and is 4-0 for the third straight year.

"We have a good opportunity to improve this weekend," said Jaguar head coach Jaco Keyser. "I feel like we have had some good practices and I'm excited to see how we respond to match situations."

Four different Jaguars are 4-0 in singles, led by senior Emily Newton (Dothan, Ala.) at No. 2. Fellow senior Mary Angela Martin (Mobile, Ala.) and sophomore Laura Matuskova (Bratislava, Slovakia) have also won all four matches at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.

Newton is also unblemished in doubles at 4-0 with two different partners.

Kennesaw State is 0-5 and will be taking the court for the first time in almost two weeks after a 4-3 defeat at Georgia Southern. The Owls, who will be playing at home for the first time this season, earned two points total in their first four matches before the GS loss, including a 7-0 defeat at No. 71 Samford. Virginie Stein holds a 2-3 record at No. 1 singles and is 2-2 at No. 1 doubles with Jana Hueckinghaus.

Charleston Southern enters the weekend with a 3-0 mark with shutout wins over Savannah State and Wofford. The Buccaneers went 17-4 last season, including a 16-match win streak and a trip to the Big South Conference championship.
