OPENING TIP
South Alabama is 1-1 for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons.

USA is 4-8 against the SEC since the start of the 2007-08 season, garnering wins over Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Florida and LSU.

South Alabama has a 2-2 record against its last four ranked opponents. The Jaguars won at No. 18/18 Florida in 2009-10 and No. 25/24 Florida State in 2012-13.

The Jaguars' last visit to Baton Rouge ended in a 79-75 overtime win.

LSU's Johnny Jones is 7-9 all-time against South Alabama but has won four of his last five meetings.

Junior Georgi Boyanov has led the team in rebounding in both games this season and is averaging 9.0 boards per contest, tied for fourth in the Sun Belt. The 18 rebounds are the most in a two-game stretch in his career.

Boyanov's 10 boards vs. Auburn-Montgomery in the opener was the fourth double-digit rebounding performance in his career.

Senior John Brown scored eight of his 10 points Sunday at N.C. State in the first half, and pulled down a career-high seven rebounds.

Senior Ken Williams recorded his 12th career 20-point game — 11th since the start of last season — vs. AUM with a team-best 21 points. He is now sixth in school history for career 3-pointers with 147. He needs six to tie for fifth place.

Williams suffered an off-night shooting at N.C. State, converting just 3-for-15 from the floor (2-for-8 from 3-point land) for eight points, but had five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Sophomore Taishaun Johnson went 8-for-9 at the free-throw line at N.C. State for a team-high 18 points. He converted eight times at the line for the seventh time in his career. Last season he set USA freshman records for free throws made (138) and attempted (177).

Johnson's 18 points are his most since pouring in 19 at Georgia State on Feb. 19.

Junior Nick Stover, in his first game since the 2013-14 season after transferring from Loyola Marymount, set a new career high with 17 points against Auburn-Montgomery and tied his personal best with nine rebounds. He shot 6-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-5 from 3-point land. Stover averaged 4.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 62 career games at LMU.

Nikola Marijan is the second USA freshman (Williams) to start a season opener in the last five years.

Sophomore Shaq Calhoun has made the most of his limited playing time this season, scoring eight points in eight minutes played. He is shooting 3-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-4 from 3-point land, and has dished out four assists with no turnovers.
