Date: 8/8
Time: 7:15-9:40 a.m.
Place: Campus practice fields
Practice attire: Shells (helmets and shoulder pads)

Offensive Player of the Day: Joseph Scelfo, So., OL, Bogart, Ga.
-Offensive coordinator Robert Matthews on Scelfo: "In our first live team periods he had really good snaps and the protection was good; obviously he's in there making calls, and I didn't see a lot of busted assignments up front.  That was during the blitz period and team period, we had good snaps and good protection which starts with the center."

Defensive Player of the Day: Jesse Kelley, Sr., DL, Birmingham, Ala.
-Defensive coordinator Travis Pearson on Kelley: "It's based on the last three days.  Here is an almost 300-pound guy who did not miss a rep; he came in ready to play and he's making plays.  He's been the vocal leader and the leader that I need emotionally, and he does it with work — those are the kind of guys that we are going to win with here."

Play of the Day: During the final team period Brandon Bridge rolled right to escape pressure, finding Jeremé Jones for a gain of 35 yards to the defense's 20-yard line.

Team period highlights: The first 10-minute period saw the offense working on picking up blitzes, and after 7-on-7 passing drills the offense ran plays to move the ball on first, second and third downs for nearly half an hour.

Miscellaneous Notes
-This session marked the first time in preseason camp that the Jaguars donned any pads with the team working out in shells.
-There were three special teams periods during the practice — the day began with work on kickoff returns, ending with periods on kickoff coverage and field goals.
-Bridge added a second completion for a long gain at the start of the last team period, connecting with Braedon Bowman for a 45-yard touchdown pass with the offense facing first-and-10.

Head coach Joey Jones
-On practicing in the morning after a night workout: "We lifted weights two days ago, practiced late last night, got up this morning — they were here for meetings a 6 a.m. — and these kids came out and fought hard today.  We had a couple of them cramp up and a few guys who were fatigued, but they fought through it and that's what it's all about.  We've got to get tougher mentally to have a chance to compete for a championship."
-On progress made since the opening fall practice: "We're starting to come together a little bit.  What I'm seeing is that some of the younger guys and new guys are starting to pick up on things.  When you come in here, until the bullets start flying you don't know how they are going to react, so they have responded well and been calm under pressure.  They have to keep going and keep making progress."

Senior ILB Maleki Harris
-On practicing in the morning after a night workout: "It was practice, it's going to be tough.  It's Mobile, we all know how the weather is out here so we have to be ready.  They [the sports medicine staff] say we have to hydrate, use the cold tub, eat and get our sleep and we'll be fine."
-On how the team is battling in the conditions: "We're looking good, but it's going to be a grind.  The first couple days of camp are always the toughest, after that your body gets used to this heat."
-On what will change between now and Sunday's first practice in full pads: "Maybe on the edges it changes, but in the trenches when you put on shoulder pads you might as well go ahead and put on everything else because there's no stopping.  It might as well be live."
-On what improvements the defense can make: "We have to stop the run — we did alright on the first day, but alright isn't good enough.  Our two main points of emphasis are stopping the run and not giving up big plays, and that's what we're giving up right now.  Good isn't good enough anymore, to be where we want to be — a championship defense — we have to stop that."

Up next: Fall practice No. 4 will take place Saturday at the campus practice fields
