MOBILE, Ala. –
Augustine Rubit, the only University of South Alabama men's basketball player to be named to four All-Sun Belt Conference teams, has inked his first pro contract with the Walter Tigers Tuebingen of the Beko BBL, Germany's top professional league.
Rubit becomes the second player off last year's squad to play professionally after
Mychal Ammons signed with Macedonian club Feni Indistrija in May.
The Tigers were promoted to the Bundesliga in 2005 and have finished as high as 10th twice, in 2007 and 2013. Rubit is joined on the roster by
Michael Cuffee (Middle Tennessee, 2005),
Jonathan Wallace (Georgetown, 2008) and
Nicholas Wiggins (Wichita State, 2014).
Rubit finished his career as the all-time leading rebounder in conference history with 1,183. He averaged 17.0 points and 9.4 rebounds in 2013-14 with 12 double-doubles, while shooting 46.3 percent from the floor. His rebounding average and double-double total were third in the conference while he ranked fourth in blocks per game (1.4).
The Houston, Texas native also set school marks this year for career free throws made (550) and attempted (763), and double-doubles (54). He also ranks in USA's top five in points (1,917, 2nd), field goals made (673, 5th), field goals attempted (1,360, 3rd), rebounding average (10.0, 3rd), blocks (139, 3rd) and games played (118, T-2nd).
