Final Results EUGENE, Ore. – The University of South Alabama's Kaitlyn Beans fell just short of becoming the second Jaguar in as many days to claim All-America status as she saw her freshman season come to a close on day three of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field Friday.
Beans, who entered the meet as the ninth overall seed in the women's triple jump, posted a top mark of 12.67m on her second attempt to place 17
th in the event's 24-woman field. She finished just one place and two-hundredths of a meter shy of earning second-team All-America honors.
"Kaitlyn definitely gave it her all today," said head track and field coach Paul Brueske. "Considering the fact that she's just a freshman, I'm confident that she will make her way back to this competition. I know that she will continue to work hard just like she's done all season and that she has a very bright future ahead of her."
The Montgomery, Ala., native qualified for the national meet after recording a 13.18m leap in a seventh-place effort at the regional preliminary competition two weeks ago, becoming the first individual in program history to advance to the NCAA finals in any of the four jumping events and the first freshman to do so in any event. She concluded the season as the owner of the school record (13.19m), which she set in a gold-medal performance at the Sun Belt Conference Championships last month.
