NEW ORLEANS – The University of South Alabama baseball team will open the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the No. 7 seed, and will square off with No. 2 seed Texas-Arlington at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stanky Field.

USA (22-31, 11-18 SBC) closed its regular season with a 7-3 win at Troy to clinch a spot in the double-elimination SBC Tournament, which will be held at Stanky Field May 21-25. UTA swept the Jaguars in three games earlier this season in Mobile.

The winner of the contest will face the winner of No. 3 Arkansas State and No. 6 Troy, who play at 4 p.m. Wednesday, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The championship game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, and will be broadcast live by the Sun Belt Network on ESPN3.

South Alabama boasts more SBC Tournament wins than any other current or former league member, and is 80-52 all-time in the conference postseason tournament. The Jaguars have won the conference tournament 12 times, and last took the crown in 2005 after winning four straight games in Miami when the tournament was hosted by Florida International.
