MURFREESBORO, Tenn
. – University of South Alabama sophomore Juan Troglia (Mendoza, Argentina) earned his second win of the weekend, but Middle Tennessee took the doubles point and three singles matches in straight sets in the final of the Middle Tennessee Shootout on Sunday.

The Blue Raiders snapped the Jaguars' three-match win streak and improved to 7-11, while USA dropped to 14-6 overall.

"We went from playing our best doubles of the season on Friday to playing our worst today," said USA head coach Nick Brochu. "Going to bed last night at 1 a.m. is not an excuse, but two of our three teams were extremely flat. Middle Tennessee was ready and took the doubles point."

Troglia picked up his eighth win this season when he outlasted Aaron Jumonville 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. Troglia's win came after MTSU took the first two singles matches, making the score 3-1.

"It was really great to see Juan win again today after a long win last night," said Brochu.

Victor Hoang dropped sophomore Gerhard Gruindelingh (Pretoria, South Africa) 6-2, 6-2 on the No. 4 court and Yannick Born defeated freshman Quincy Olij (Alkmaar, Netherlands) 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 for a 2-0 Blue Raider lead.

Following Troglia's victory, Victor Cornea secured the win for Middle Tennessee when he edged junior Manuel Belda (Posadas, Misiones, Argentina) 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 3 flight.

"The guys put up a big fight in singles," said Brochu. "We won one singles match and we were winning on the last two courts, but we needed another point. It was a really close match, especially when Manuel started his comeback. I give credit to Middle Tennessee for closing it at No. 3."

In doubles action, freshman Tuki Jacobs (Windhoek, Namibia) and Troglia fell 8-0 to Hoang and Ettore Zito at No. 3, and No. 57 Cornea and David Fox downed Belda and Olij 8-0 at the No. 1 spot to clinch the point.

"Overall, this was a great tournament for the Jags," said Brochu. "Reaching the final was a good result. We need to work on a few things and get ready for the last stretch before the Sun Belt Conference Tournament."
