USA (19-3) is coming off a 4-1 showing at Florida Atlantic's Parents' Weekend in Boca Raton, Fla., where the Jaguars defeated Marshall, Illinois twice and the host-Owls and dropped a 1-0 decision to Virginia Tech.

Following a 2-2, four-game stretch that included a shutout loss to No. 12 Baylor in which USA only produced a pair of hits, the Jaguar offense awoke in the final three contests last weekend in Florida, South Alabama scoring 17 runs on 23 hits.

The win over Florida Atlantic marked USA's 15th-straight road victory, dating back to the 2013 campaign.

Farish Beard went 3-0 on the weekend en route to earning Sun Belt Conference Pitcher-of-the Week honors for the second week in a row and third time this season in only five voting periods. The junior from Fairhope, Ala., boasts the nation's seventh-best ERA (0.40) and leads the country in fewest hits allowed per seven innings (2.02) and strikeouts per seven innings (11.9).

South Alabama currently owns the best record of any Sun Belt Conference program.

The Colonels are 8-17 on the year and winless in three Southland Conference games after being recently swept in as many bouts at Stephen F. Austin last weekend.

Nicholls State is 2-7 on the road this season. The Colonels are led by senior Brittany Marcet, who has registered a .351 average at the plate and leads the club in hits (26), doubles (5), home runs (4), total bases (42), RBI (18), slugging percentage (.581) and on-base percentage (.455).

Jackie Johnson is 6-10 in the circle for the Colonels with a team-leading 2.54 ERA on 75 strikeouts, 42 runs allowed (32 earned) and 54 walks issued in 88 1/3 total innings pitched. Backup Hannah Haydel is 1-6 with a 4.47 ERA.

USA is 9-5 all-time versus the Colonels after defeating them, 2-1, at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic in Gulfport, Miss., on Feb. 28.

In the schools' most recent clash, Hannah Campbell struck out nine and allowed an unearned run in USA's 2-1 victory over Nicholls State on Feb. 22 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic.

USA sophomore center fielder Stephanie Pilkington scored both runs against Nicholls State after going 2-for-4 in the contest with a triple. Freshman Amanda Minahan was 2-for-3 against the Colonels with an RBI double.

The Jaguars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Chloe Rathburn reached on a fiedler's choice that allowed Pilkington to score her first run after USA had loaded the bases.

Nicholls State evened the scoreline at 1-1 a half-inning later when Kaitlyn Griffith's throwing error allowed Haley Parkerson to round home.

Pilkington was plated on Amanda Minahan's two-out, RBI double in the top of the fourth, giving USA its winning margin. Campbell retired the final 12 Nicholls State batters to secure the win, which marked USA's eighth straight.
