MOBILE, Ala.
– Entering Sun Belt Conference play at home against Texas State on Friday, University of South Alabama will be looking to strike the same spark it did in a season-opening defeat of Mississippi State on August 23, which took the club to seven wins in 11 non-conference matches.

That very spark ignited a Jaguar offense that lept to the nation's statistical forefront, as USA (7-3-1) grew to be the NCAA's leaders in goals, assists and points.

It wasn't only a potent offense that South Alabama's victims had to contend with, it was also a stifling defense, led by a senior core with as much speed and power as experience.

Through its first 11 matches, USA is scoring well over three goals per game, while allowing less than one. The club has achieved its success by limiting its opponents' chances, explaining USA's dominating 20-10 average shots-per-game ratio.

Freshman forward Lauren Allison wasted no time in securing her spot in the side after exploding for nine goals and five assists in her first 10 collegiate appearances.

The British product lives amongst the nation's top 25 in total and per-game averages of goals and points.

USA and Texas State (3-5-1) will face off for the second time in history and first since the opposition renamed itself from Southwest Texas State College. The Jags were victorious in the last bout, 1-0, in 1999.

Kat Conner is in her 15th year at the helm of the Bobcat soccer program, having coincidentally began her career in the last year these two sides met, 1999 also marking Texas State's inaugural season.

Texas State will open play in its third different conference in as many years, following a move from the Southland Conference, where it dominated for nine successive years before a one-year spell in the Western Athletic Conference, in which in finished third overall.

The Bobcats are 3-5-1 on the year, having experienced the sting of stiff competition after four losses to teams rated amongst the top 102 in the NCAA's RPI poll.

Friday night will be Kids' Night, courtesy of USA Athletic Marketing. Inflatables and Chill Yogurt will be present on site, where the first 100 fans will be given free Jaguar thunder sticks. The South Alabama women's soccer team will also hold an autograph session postgame. Kickoff is at 7 p.m., but gates will open an hour prior.

The Cage is located on Old Shell Road, just east of Stanky Field. All home matches throughout the season will be free to all attendees.

** South Alabama Soccer is HOSTING a FREE soccer clinic this Saturday, September 28th. Kids aged 4 to 18 are encouraged to be at The Cage, as USA players will be giving instruction from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. **
