MOBILE, Ala. – After scoring the most goals it has all season in an 8-0 win over Southern on Tuesday night, University of South Alabama women's soccer welcomes Murray State, which hasn't allowed a goal all season, to The Cage on Friday at 7 p.m.
Â
USA (5-1-1) will also take on Alabama A&M, winless in its first six contests, on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Â
Thirteen assists were credited to Jaguar student-athletes on Tuesday, as USA racked up 29 total points in the contest, the most recorded since South Alabama's 2007 squad tallied 32 in an 11-1 undoing of Lamar.
Â
Friday's contest will be a different matter altogether, as the Jags are winless against the Racers in the clubs' only two meetings, having lost overtime decision in 2005 and '12.
Â
The Racers are 3-0-1 on the year after 1-0 defeats of UALR and Evansville and a 10-0 drubbing of Alabama A&M. Murray State has outscored its opponents, 12-0, and is averaging 20 shots per game to opponents' 11. The Racers have outshot opponents, 42-15, in the first half and dominate in corner kick opportunities, 16-11.
Â
Julie Mooney leads the club in points with six on two goals and two assists. She shares the team's goals lead with Pavlina Nepokojova, Alexa Hosey and Lauren Frazier. Senior midfielder Rebecca Bjorkvall leads the outfit with three assists.
Â
Savannah Haberman has spent all but 45 minutes between the posts for the Racers, having made 22 saves and allowed not a single goal. She has three shutouts on the year and shares one with backup Kylie Lawrence.
Â
Like USA, Murray State is also receiving NSCAA South region votes, and the Racers currently have the second-best record in the Ohio Valley Conference, behind Austin Peay (4-0-1), with whom Murray State shares the top two spots in virtually every OVC offensive category.
Â
"We are very much looking forward to stepping out at home again with our wonderful fans," said head coach Graham Winkworth. "Although I have a lot of respect for Southern University, they are a team in transition. Murray State will be a completely different game.
Â
"They are a side that shut us out last year en route to a victory," he continued. "They are yet to concede a goal this season and are a well coached and organized side. The girls cannot wait to face this challenge, though, and continue to give me a lot of positive selection headaches, with so many of them playing well currently. We are used to being the underdogs this season, so I feel that the team will relish this challenge."
Â
Alabama A&M has been outscored by opponents, 52-1, this year and have struggled through three 10-0 defeats. The Lady Bulldogs' best result was a 4-0 loss to Jacksonville State, and the club's only goal came in an 11-1 defeat to Lipscomb.
Â
USA will be looking to sweep the weekend to move to 7-1-1 ahead of a Florida weekend where the club will face its toughest opponent of the season next Friday, South Florida, which is currently leading all American Athletic Conference outfits.
