AUBURN, Ala. – Two members of the University of South Alabama track and field teams set new personal records at Hutsell-Rosen Track on the first day of competition at the Tiger Classic Friday.
Bobbie Williamson (55.77m) posted a new career-high mark in the women’s hammer throw on her way to a fifth-place finish.
Jeff Long (53.74m) led the Jaguar men’s team, setting a new personal record in the men’s hammer throw to claim first place in the open competition, while Jarrod Kedzior (49.94m) placed sixth. Adam Patterson finished with a throw of 51.71m in the invite competition.
In the women’s triple jump, Shayna McCarver came one-tenth of a meter shy of tying her career-best mark when she leapt 12.21m to finish fifth in the event.
Williamson and McCarver both currently rank second in the Sun Belt Conference in their respective events.
“Today was a good start to the weekend,” said head track and field coach Paul Brueske. “Everybody came out and gave good performances against some really strong competition. It was great to see a couple of student-athletes set new PRs, and the others were not far off. We’re pleased with what we saw today, and hopefully that will carry over into tomorrow.”
