WALNUT, Calif. – University of South Alabama junior Salome Lecoq posted her best time of the season in the women’s 1,500-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays at Himler Lodge Stadium Thursday.
 
Lecoq clocked in at 4:29.95, shaving nearly a second off her previous best effort this year at the Tiger Classic in Auburn two weeks ago.  She currently ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference in the event behind only Josephine Adams of North Texas (4:16.20).
 
Of the 171 individuals who completed Thursday’s race, Lecoq placed 53^rd overall, finishing ninth in her heat.
 
“I’m really proud of how Salome competed today, especially considering what a large field this was,” said assistant track and field coach David Barnett.  “She’s improved her time each time she’s stepped out on the track this season, so she continues to take steps in the right direction.  I’m confident that she’ll continue to work hard and get better. 
 
“She’s going to be a big contributor for us at the conference championships.  If she continues to do what she’s been doing, I expect her to finish near the top and be an all-conference performer.”
