MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama baseball will begin a five-game road swing Tuesday when it travels to Montgomery, Ala., for a 6 p.m. contest against Alabama State at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.

South Alabama (14-3) has won four of its last five contests after taking two of three games from North Florida over the weekend. The Jaguars defeated Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La., last Tuesday before knocking off Southern Mississippi last Wednesday at Stanky Field.
USA holds a 9-0 all-time lead over Alabama State in a series that dates back to 1987. The Jags are 3-0 all-time at Alabama State after winning the last meeting in Montgomery 16-1 in 1998.
Right-hander Matt Bell (2-0) is scheduled to make his third start of the season, and will square off with ASU right-hander Tyler Howe (0-0). In his last start which came at Nicholls State, Bell struck out a career-high nine batters in five innings, and allowed just one run on three hits.
The Jags enter Tuesday’s contest with a .296 batting average, and they lead the Sun Belt Conference in hits (175), runs scored (135), RBI (119) and sacrifice flies (11). USA is 6-1 in night games, and 1-1 under the lights in road contests this year.
The South Alabama pitching staff leads the league in strikeouts with 171 in 151 innings pitched.
Alabama State (12-5) enters the game with a .314 team batting average with 10 home runs, 103 RBI and 47 stolen bases in 54 attempts. The Hornets carry a three-game winning streak into Tuesday’s contest after sweeping Alabama A&M over the weekend.
