USA WOMEN'S TENNIS LOOKS TO SNAP RECENT SLIDE WEDNESDAY

MOBILE, Ala. – After dropping two matches last weekend, the University of South Alabama women’s tennis team looks to rebound as they host New Orleans Wednesday at 1 p.m. on the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Courts.

USA posts a 4-3 mark in their spring season after falling 4-3 to South Carolina State and 6-1 to North Florida last weekend. South Alabama started the season with a four-match win streak, but have dropped the last three matches.

“The bottom line is we didn’t play very good this past weekend,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “We try to measure improvement in weekly increments and up until now we have been taking steps forward, but this weekend we definitely took a step or two back.”

Freshman Michaela Meszarosova (Bratislava, Slovakia) leads the Jaguars with a 5-1 record at the top three spots in her spring campaign. She defeated Kateryna Nakonechna of SCSU in straight sets on Saturday. Sophomore Mary Angela Martin (Mobile, Ala.) holds a 5-2 record overall and has won four matches in straight sets.

South Alabama leads the all-time series with New Orleans 10-0. The two teams last faced off in February 2010 and the Jaguars defeated the Privateers 4-3.

UNO enters the match with a 1-5 record and dropped their last match 4-3 to McNeese State on Sunday. Kristina Martic leads the Privateers with a 3-1 mark at the No. 2 spot and currently holds a three-match win streak.

“We have to stick with what we’re doing,” said Keyser. “We just have to tighten up. We’re self-destructing a little too much. We have a great opportunity this week to try to keep on pushing forward.”
