JAGS STYMIE LATE GEORGIA STATE COMEBACK, WIN 2-1 ON THE ROAD

USA's Jordan Duncan scored her fifth goal of the season on Thursday night, which proved the difference in the match.
Box Score

ATLANTA, Ga. – Goals by Monique Autmon and Jordan Duncan were enough for University of South Alabama women's soccer to weather a Georgia State rally in the dying minutes of regulation, as the Jaguars won their third-straight Sun Belt Conference match at GSU Soccer Complex on Thursday.

USA (10-3-2, 3-0-1 SBC) now returns home to The Cage to face league-leading and preseason-favorite Western Kentucky at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Live stats for Sunday's match can be found via the women's soccer schedule page.

The Athletic Marketing Department will be giving away Jaguar Thunderstix, rally towels and Jaguar logo car stickers for all USA faculty, staff and students from noon until 1p.m. while supplies last and will also provide free pizza to the first 50 USA students with ID to check into JagSwag at the promotional table just inside the gates.

"All in all, I'm happy with this result," said USA head coach Graham Winkworth. "It's wasn't always pretty, but there were moments in the game where we played attractive soccer. On the road, sometimes it's just about grinding out a result, and tonight's win was impressive against a talented Georgia State team."

After the clubs traded shots in the outset, Autmon struck in the 22nd to put the visitors ahead when she gathered Lauren Allison's deflected shot, and ripped a curling ball past Panther keeper Brie Haynes, the league's leader in saves.

It was the freshman's second goal of the year and first since September 15.

Duncan doubled the visitors' advantage midway through the second half after coming on as a substitute just seven minutes prior. Clarissa Hernandez delivered an aerial ball into no man's land behind the Panther defense, and Haynes rushed to collect, but, after missing the opportunity to clear, was forced to watch Duncan calmly place her fifth goal of the year into an open net for a 2-0 Jaguar lead.

Moments later, host frustration was made evident when GSU's Whitney Ravan was sent off for dissent after disputing a hard foul, but the Panthers managed to construct a positive result in the form of a set piece goal in the 85th minute.

Alyssia Feronti's corner kick was met by Jordan Young's head, and Margaret Bruemmer lashed a shot through traffic to cut the Jaguar lead in half.

Only Ashley Nagy's high effort followed, however, as the Jags saw out the match, moving to 3-1 all-time against the Panthers. USA keeper Meliisa Drish made five saves on the night to move to 8-3-2 on the year.

On how he believes a third-consecutive league victory will impact his side in a promising clash with the Hilltoppers on Sunday, Winkworth said, "The girls are full of confidence right now. We are excited to get back home, playing in front of our fans. We were predicted to finish sixth in the league, and Western Kentucky was predicted to win it, so we have no pressure and nothing to lose. Our minds are on simply enjoying our soccer."
