RUBIT CLAIMS BACK TO BACK SUN BELT PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama’s Augustine Rubit averaged 20.3 points and 13.5 over four games to earn his second straight Sun Belt Conference Men’s Basketball Player of Week, the league announced Monday.

Rubit is the first in the conference this season to repeat as player of the week and wins the award for the fourth time in his career. The program has three winners this year—the most in the SBC—after junior Antoine Allen claimed the honor in week one.

A junior from Houston, Texas, Rubit recorded a double-double in each game over the reporting period to extend his streak to six games, the longest in his career. He leads the Sun Belt and ranks fifth in the nation with nine double-doubles.

Rubit grabbed 13 or more rebounds and tallied 19 or more points three times each, including a career high in scoring against Louisiana at Monroe, pouring in 32 points on 11 of 12 shooting from the floor, while adding a game-high 13 rebounds. He totaled 20 points against the Warhawks in the second half alone, converting all six attempts from the field.

Saturday Rubit grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds against Middle Tennessee, marking the 11th straight game he has led the team in that category. Rubit is second in the Sun Belt in scoring (19.3 ppg) and first—and eighth in the nation—in rebounding (11.2 rpg).
