BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – University of South Alabama freshman Derek Westbrook finished seventh in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase on Sunday to close out Jaguar competition at the 2012 USATF Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Westbrook completed the course in a personal-best 9:29.02 for the finish, the best amongst four total South Alabama first-year student-athletes to compete at the Juniors this weekend. Biloxi, Miss., native, Shannen Weyer, finished 10^th in the women’s division of the same race on Friday and Mikel Magnusson took 14^th in the men’s decathlon on Saturday.
 
Westbrook’s introductory season concludes with four total top-eight finishes in the steeple in as many appearances, one of which earned a single team point at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in May.
