MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama softball team will go head-to-head with Sun Belt Conference rival Troy in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Jaguar Field to close out the regular season.

The Jaguars, who secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference tournament with a pair of wins over FIU on April 28 and April 29, are 33-15 overall and 15-7 in the SBC. USA ranks 5th in the nation in fielding percentage (.977) and leads the league in team pitching with a 1.93 ERA and team fielding.
Junior Britany Fowler leads all Jaguar bats with a .345 batting average and a .549 slugging percentage. She has recorded a club-high 12 doubles and 33 RBI off 49 hits. Fellow junior Meghan Collins is right behind her hitting .328 with 44 hits including a team-leading seven home runs.
Sophomore Hannah Campbell (18-10) paces the Jaguar defense with a 2.03 ERA in 31 appearances. Campbell has tossed a career-high 172 strikeouts in 179.2 innings of work this season while recording seven shutouts. Freshman Farish Beard holds a 0.83 earned run average and a 5-2 record after making 10 appearances in the circle. Beard has struck out 58 batters in 42 innings and given up only five earned runs.
The all-time series with the Trojans is tied 8-8 after South Alabama downed Troy 6-3 on March 28 in Troy, Ala.
The Trojans are 31-20 on the year and 10-12 in league play. Last weekend, Troy was swept by SBC foe North Texas in Troy. The Mean Green topped the Trojans 3-0 and 4-1 in games one and two before edging them 4-3 in game three. The road has not been kind to the Trojans this year as they are 6-9 in away contests.
As a team, Troy is hitting .272 with Sarah Shields and Hayden Gann leading the way. Shields is hitting .348 and Gann is batting .345 on the season. Gann leads the team with a .601 slugging percentage and 89 total bases.
Ashley Rainey (17-11) has been the workhorse in the circle for the Trojans this season. She has made 35 appearances and thrown 18 complete games. Rainey has allowed 182 hits and 74 earned runs in 190 innings of work.
