JAG BASEBALL FALLS AT ARKANSAS STATE, 8-1

Jordan Patterson went 2-for-4 with two doubles in the Jags' 8-1 loss at Arkansas State Friday.

JONESBORO, Ark.  – Arkansas State right-hander Jacob Lee allowed one run on four hits in seven innings to lead the Red Wolves to an 8-1 win over University of South Alabama baseball Friday at Kell Field.

Lee (6-1) walked four and struck out three to earn his sixth win of the season.

Jaguar left-hander Phillip Byrd (3-3) suffered the loss in 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Arkansas State (24-19, 13-7 SBC) scored three runs in the bottom of the first on two Jaguar errors and a fielder’s choice by Logan Uxa.

The Red Wolves added two runs in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Michael Faulkner to take a 5-0 lead.

Nolan Earley put the Jags on the board with a two-out single to center field in the top of the seventh to cut the ASU lead to 5-1. But the Red Wolves answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by ClaudeJohnson to extend their lead to 6-1.

ASU added the game’s final runs on a two-run single by Faulkner in the bottom of the eighth.

Faulkner went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead ASU at the plate. Zach Maggio added three hits.

Jordan Patterson went 2-for-4 with two doubles to lead USA offensively.

South Alabama (18-28-12-10 SBC) will look to even the series in game two at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
