SCHWARTZ POSTS SCHOOL RECORD IN HEPTATHLON AT TEXAS RELAYS

AUSTIN, Texas – University of South Alabama senior Lindsay Schwartz took fourth in the high jump and posted personal records in both the 200-meter dash and javelin throw to record a school-record 5,468 points in the Texas Relays women’s heptathlon, which culminated on Thursday.

Schwartz cleared 1.69m (5-06.50) in the high jump on fewer misses than tying opponents to take 842 points in the opening of the seven-trial event. She then reeled off PRs in the 200-meter dash (24.93) and javelin throw (36.49m/119-09) to earn an extra 1,493 points in a fourth-place overall finish.

Her point total outdoes the school-record total of 5.318 she posted in a championship performance at the 2011 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Latifah Johnson threw for 59.61m (195-07) in the women’s hammer throw on Thursday to place sixth. While she currently ranks 12th in the event in the NCAA on a Louisiana Classics mark of 59.96m (196-09), Johnson has now thrown over 59 meters in the event in the past three successive meets.

Joey Torres rounded out Jaguar performances on Thursday, placing ninth in the men’s hammer throw on a mark of 57.59m (189-09).

Torres is set to compete in the men’s discus on Friday. Live results form the Texas Relays can be found here
