MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama baseball will travel to Wichita, Kan., for a pair of midweek games against Wichita State, beginning Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
The two-game set will conclude with a 6:30 p.m. contest Wednesday evening.
South Alabama (9-14) enters Tuesday’s contest on a three-game winning streak after sweeping its first Sun Belt Conference road series at Louisiana-Monroe last weekend.
The Jaguars have scored 55 runs on 67 hits in their last five games, and are 4-1 during that span. In its last five contests, South Alabama is batting .345 with 11 doubles, eight home runs, 48 RBI and 55 runs scored.
Nick Zaharion, the Sun Belt Conference player of the week, leads the SBC in batting average (.373), ranks second in slugging percentage (.602) and fourth in RBI (27). He leads South Alabama in batting average, hits (31), RBI, total bases (50), slugging percentage and on-base percentage (.458).
Zaharion leads the conference in batting average (.536), slugging percentage (1.071), on-base percentage (.581), hits (15), RBI (16), home runs (4) and total bases (30) in SBC contests. Zaharion ranks second in the league with 10 runs scored in conference games.
USA is hitting .266 as a team heading into Tuesday’s contest at Wichita State, with a 4.70 team ERA. Right-hander Dillon Buhrkuhl (0-3) will make his fifth start of the season Tuesday, and will square off against WSU left-hander Kris Gardner (3-0).
Wichita State (14-12) dropped two of three games last weekend against Long Beach State, and is 3-2 in its last five games. The Shockers are hitting .288 and carry a 3.29 team ERA into the series.
Johnny Coy leads WSU in batting average (.351), hits (34), runs scored (18), home runs (4), RBI (29), total bases (55), slugging percentage (.567) and on-base percentage (.421).
Wichita State leads the all-time series 8-5, and knocked off the Jags 15-10 in the last meeting between the schools in 2010 at Stanky Field.
