TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After taking the FSU Relays hammer throw crown on Friday, Joey Torres recorded his second-consecutive top-three finish at the meet in the men’s discus on Saturday, throwing 54.31m to notch one of eight top-eight performances for the University of South Alabama men’s and women’s track and field teams on the final day of the competition at Mike Long Track.
Last season, Torres finished third at the Seminole-hosted event on a mark of 49.15m (161-03).
Freshman Tevin Barnett, of Muscle Shoals High School (Muscle Shoals, Ala.), took second overall and third collegiately in the men’s 400-meter hurdles in a time of 53.62 seconds, ahead of fellow freshman Spencer Anderson, who finished sixth in 54.42 seconds.
Adam Patterson placed fourth in the men’s shot put on Saturday with a throw of 14.37m (47-01.25).
After recording her third-consecutive win in the women’s hammer throw on Friday, senior Latifah Johnson finished sixth in the discus throw on Saturday on a mark of 13.40m (43-11.75) to lead Bobbie Williamson (7
th, 13.31m/43-08).
The Jags rounded out top-eight finishes on Saturday with Jasmine Ferguson taking seventh in the women’s high jump on mark of 1.58m (05-02.25) and the men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Garrett Schumacher, Spencer Anderson, Barnett and Tyler Agee finishing in the same position in a time of 3:18.73.
