LAFAYETTE, La. – Bobbie Williamson is now the University of South Alabama’s all-time leader in the women’s discus throw after she posted a 43.98m mark in a fifth-place finish in the event on Saturday, which was the final day of competition for the school’s men’s and women’s track and field teams at the Louisiana Classics.
Williamson’s mark surpassed former leader Bell Jordan’s 1999 measure of 43.33m. The Honolulu, Hawai’i, native also finished eighth in the shot put on Saturday (12.85m/42-02) – a spot behind Latifah Johnson (7
th, 12.96m/42-06.25) – and fourth in the women’s hammer throw on Friday (54.18m/177-09).
Joey Torres recorded his second collegiate runner-up performance of the weekend on Saturday in the men’s discus, throwing for 54.43m (178-07) to finish behind LSU’s Rodney Brown. Torres also finished second in the hammer throw on Friday.
Johnnie Borries posted a 44.37m (145-07) throw to finish fifth in the women’s javelin on Saturday and jump into second-place on the USA all-time list. Angela McCord followed at seventh on a mark of 43.28m (142-00).
Stephen Calogrides threw a personal-best 63.92m (209-08) in the men’s javelin to improve his third-place all-time standing.
Tyler Agee recorded a 110-meter hurdles time of 14.69 seconds to take third, while Spencer Anderson finished eighth in 16.09 seconds. Alex Shields finished sixth in both the men’s 800- and 1,500-meter runs in times of 1:57.51 and 4:02.27, respectively.
Tori Lawson finished sixth in the women’s 1,500 (4:39.99) and ninth in the 800 meters (2:19.24) on Saturday. Lindsay Schwartz, in her first outdoor meet of the season, ran a 14.16 in the women’s 100-meter hurdles to move from fifth to fourth all-time in USA record books.
Derek Westbrook (15:54.37), Justin Housley (16:00.12) and Daniel Cooper (16:16.75) went 7-8-9 in the men’s 5,000-meter run, and Tevin Barnett took fifth in the men’s 400-meter hurdles in 54.49 seconds.
