JAGUAR HOOPS ADDS DALLAS JONES TO ROSTER FOR 2011-12 SEASON

MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama head men’s basketball coach Ronnie Arrow announced Saturday that Dallas Jones has signed a National Letter-of-Intent and will join the program in the fall.

A 6-foot-5, 210-pound guard from New Market, Ala., Jones will have three seasons of eligibility remaining after playing at Lon Morris (Texas) Community College last year.

“Dallas played in one of the best junior-college conferences in the country,” Arrow said.  “He’s got size, he’s strong, he can play multiple positions and he can shoot the ball.  And one of the best things is that, because he was only at Lon Morris for one season, he will be able to have three good years of learning the same system.”

In his only season at LMCC, Jones averaged 12.7 points — which ranked second on team — and 3.1 rebounds per game, adding 59 assists and 20 steals while playing in 28 contests.  He led the Bearcats with 58 three-point field goals, and shot 71.8 percent from the free-throw line on his way to being selected honorable mention all-conference.

Jones helped the team to a 21-10 finish after the Bearcats won their first-round contest at the Region XIV Tournament.  He had 15 points in that game, then followed up with a 20-point effort in the quarterfinals against third-seeded Jacksonville (Texas) C.C.; Jones hit 7-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, in his final appearance for the Bearcats.

As a senior at Buckhorn High School in Huntsville, Ala., Jones averaged 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals per outing while guiding the Bucks to the Class 6A Northwest Sub-Regional Tournament.  Following the season, he was named second-team all-state and first-team all-area.  Prior to that, Jones was part of a Butler High squad that won back-to-back state 5A championships, going 35-3 when he was a junior and 28-5 the previous winter; the Rebels defeated previously unbeaten Russellville HS to claim the first of their two titles.  He averaged 12 points and four rebounds per game his junior year.
