USA vs. Georgia State box score
MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team dropped its last home match of the season to No. 64 Georgia State 7-0 Sunday on the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
“Georgia State is a really good team,” said USA head coach Jaco Keyser. “They were definitely too strong for us. We’ve got to add a lot of parts in order to be competitive with a team like that.”
The Panthers took the early lead winning the doubles point on the strength of 8-1 and 8-0 wins on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts respectively.
GSU picked up three straight-sets wins at No. 1, No. 6 and No. 5 singles to clinch the match.
South Alabama junior Chané Hines (Johannesburg, South Africa) won her first set against Maryna Kozachenko 6-3 and was up in the second 3-2 before retiring due to a heat-related injury.
Georgia State also added points at No. 4 and No. 2 singles.
“It’s a shame Chané couldn’t finish her match because she’s on a nice little roll,” said Keyser. “She was playing a good player today and getting the best of her. Hopefully she’ll be alright and ready to go on Wednesday.”
Wednesday the Jags take on Sun Belt Conference rival Troy at 2 p.m. in Troy, Ala.
