KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of South Alabama redshirt freshman
Augustine Rubit has added to his season honors by being named Second Team National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District.
Rubit, the 2010-11 Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, was also tabbed to the All-SBC Third Team and was the last player of the week of the regular season. He is the first South Alabama player to earn the league’s top rookie award since
Jeff Hodge in 1986 and the first-ever Jaguar named to an all-conference team as a freshman.
The Houston, Texas native currently leads the conference and is sixth in the nation in rebounding, averaging 11.0 per game. His average is first among Division I freshmen and his 14 double-doubles share the top spot with Ohio State’s
Jared Sullinger.
Rubit averaged 13.1 points per contest, second on the team and 12th in the league. He scored 20 or more a team-high five times, including a career-high 26 at Middle Tennessee. He grabbed 18 rebounds in a game twice.
He also ranks first in the Sun Belt in offensive rebounds (4.5 rpg), second in defensive rebounds (6.5 rpg), fourth in field goal percentage (.559) and seventh in blocked shots (1.1).
