JAGUAR SOFTBALL RETURNS HOME TO TAKES ON NICHOLLS STATE IN MIDWEEK GAME

MOBILE, Ala.  – The University of South Alabama softball team returns home to take on Nicholls State at 5 p.m. in a midweek game Wednesday night at Jaguar Field.

The Jagaurs improved to 12-3 after winning all five of its games in the Red and Blue Classic in Oxford, Miss., and extended their win streak to a program-high six.

 On day one, the Jags shut out Louisiana Tech 8-0 in five innings, and defeated Southeastern Missouri 8-3 in game two. USA put up 21 runs on Saturday to defeat Austin Peay 11-2, and tournament host Ole Miss 10-2. USA’s victory over Ole Miss was the program’s second victory over an SEC opponent. The Jags closed out the tournament Sunday, with a 4-1 victory over Austin Peay.

After the weekend, Brittany Fowler has recorded a hit in the last nine games and leads the team in multi-hit games (9) and multi-RBI games (7). Senior short stop Jenny Stevens reclaimed the lead as the program’s all-time career home run leader (17), while junior Haley Hopkins trails one behind. Stevens is also currently on a nine game hit-streak.

Against APSU, the Jags recorded a season-high 17 hits, and for the fifth time this season USA put at least 10 runs on board. The Jags have recorded five victories in five innings this season.

Meghan Collins leads the Jaguars with a .500 batting average and ranks second in hits with a career-high tying 21.

Pitchers Morgan Druhan, Hannah Campbell and Lindsey Croft all saw action over the weekend. Druhan (3-1) went 8 innings in the circle earning a win and her second collegiate save and Campbell (4-2) struck out 15 batters in 13.2 inning of work. She also picked up her second career save. Croft (5-0) went 2-0 striking out nine in 9.1 innings of work.

The Jaguars are 3-5 all-time against Nicholls (6-9¬). Last season, USA defeated the Colonels 6-2 on the road. NSU enters the game after going 1-3 last weekend at the Southern Miss softball tournament.  The Colonels defeated Evansville 5-3, and fell to Southern Miss 9-1 and Mississippi Valley 6-5.

Brittany Marcet and Ashley Ray lead the Colonel offense. Marcet is batting .350 and has recorded two runs and 14 hits and Ray is batting .315 with a team leading ten runs and 17 hits.
