RUBIT TABBED SUN BELT PLAYER OF THE WEEK

NEW ORLEANS – University of South Alabama sophomore Augustine Rubit was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. Rubit led the Jaguars to a 1-1 split last week to improve to 5-3 overall on the season.

The honor is the Jaguars’ second honor this season as junior Xavier Roberson (Houston, Texas) was named SBC Player of the Week on Nov. 29.

Rubit averaged 22 points and eight rebounds during the two games and recorded his third double-double of the season against Alcorn State. The Houston, Texas native scored a career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds against the Braves. The double-double was the 17th of his young career.

He hit 13 of his 22 attempts (both personal bests) from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Rubit’s 31 points came in only 25 minutes of work on the floor.

Against Southern Miss, he scored 13 points with six rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting. On the season, Rubit ranks second in the conference in scoring (16.3) and first in rebounding (8.6).

The Jaguars will travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to take on the Islanders on Dec. 15 before hosting Georgia Southern in Mobile on Dec. 19. The Jags will then travel to Las Vegas to take on San Diego before a break for the holidays.
