MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The University of South Alabama soccer team’s match with Sun Belt Conference rival Middle Tennessee ended in a double-overtime 0-0 tie at the Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium Friday night.
“I was proud of our effort tonight,” said USA head coach Mike Varga. “You always want to win a match, but we came and we played a good team and we played with good effort. I thought it was fair that we came out with a draw tonight.”
South Alabama is now 10-3-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference play while MTSU is 9-7-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the SBC.
USA goalkeeper sophomore Melissa Drish (Conyers, Ga.) recorded seven saves to keep the Blue Raiders off the board.
“We had some pretty good chances to score and so did they,” Varga said. “We were dangerous a couple of times. We could have scored a couple goals.”
The Jaguars attempted four shots on goal, but Rebecca Cushing was able to make four saves on the night.
The Jags will return to The Cage Sunday to take on SBC foe Western Kentucky at 1 p.m. in their last home match of the season.
