NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore Romain Bocaert was named the University of South Alabama’s second Sun Belt Conference men’s tennis player of the week of this season, the league announced Wednesday.
The Lille, France native went undefeated at No. 1 singles and at No. 2 doubles helping the Jaguars snag third place at the Sun Belt Shootout this past weekend. His singles wins included a straight-set victory over No. 29 Denver’s Yannick Weihs 7-5, 6-3 and a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 win against Florida Atlantic’s Marc Abdelnour.
Bocaert also teamed up with Christian Kuehne to down Louisiana Lafayette’s Carlin Murray and Yanick Mandi 8-2 on the No. 2 court.
Bocaert has led USA in singles play with an impressive 13-3 record in duals this spring. He also boasts the Jags’ leading doubles record at 8-3.
Bocaert and the Jaguars will be back in action April 10-11 in Norfolk, Va. when they take on Old Dominion and Virginia Commonwealth.
