MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team will kick off a six-match homestand against Austin Peay Wednesday at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.
“It will be good to get back out on the courts pretty fast after a bad weekend in Virginia,” USA head coach Jaco Keyser said. “To be fair, a couple of players have been thrown into the deep end, but it’s pretty simple, we’re either going to drown or we’re going to figure a way out. We just have to make it through the next couple of weeks.”
This match marks the first ever meeting between the Jags and the Lady Govs.
The Jaguars are 1-5 on the season. They are coming off a tough two-loss weekend where South Alabama fell to No. 73 Virginia Tech 7-0 and Louisville 6-1 in Blacksburg, Va. Jaguar veteran Katie Welch has paired with newcomer Chané Hines to go 3-3 in doubles play, while having a combined three wins in singles competition.
Austin Peay’s three-match win streak was snapped by Jacksonville State 4-3 Saturday putting them at 5-3 so far this year. The Lady Govs’ Mariana Pagan is undefeated in singles competition at 6-0, all from the No. 3 spot.
Next up for the Jags is Tulane on March 13 at 11 a.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts. Admission is free.
