MOBILE, Ala. – The University of South Alabama women’s tennis team returns to action this weekend when they host Tulane on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Middle Tennessee Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
USA’s all-time record against Tulane stands at 22-4. The last time these two teams met the No. 20 Green Wave defeated the 27th-ranked Jaguars 6-1 at Tulane. South Alabama leads the all-time series with the Blue Raiders 17-0. The No. 74 Jags took on MTSU last season in Nashville, Tenn. where they dominated Middle Tennessee 6-1.
The Jags will enter the match against the Green Wave looking to build on a 1-6 overall record. South Alabama’s lone win came on Feb. 24 when they downed Sun Belt Conference foe New Orleans 4-3 at home. Jaguar veteran Katie Welch has paired with newcomer Chané Hines to go 3-3 in doubles play, while having a combined three wins in singles competition.
The Green Wave is 7-4 on the year. Tulane is coming off of a 7-0 shutout of Southern Illinois Wednesday. Sophomore Mariam Kurdaze leads the Green Wave with a 16-7 overall record. In doubles action Kurdaze is on top again pairing with freshman Emma Levy to post an 11-8 record on the season.
Middle Tennessee is 5-4 entering their match at Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday. The Blue Raiders have not won a match since Feb. 21 when they beat UALR 5-2 giving them a four-match losing streak. MTSU’s top singles performer is Marietta Bigus who has gone 6-3 in the spring campaign. The Middle Tennessee tandem of Yuiri Nomoto and Anna Djananova are undefeated in doubles play with a 5-0 mark on the season.
Both matches are slated to begin at 11 a.m. Admission to all home matches is free.
