Soccer Sweeps Troy, Earns Eighth Consecutive Rivalry Win

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama soccer swept Troy 2-0 on Thursday, giving the Jags a shutout win to open Sun Belt play.

SCORING MOMENTS:
  • 15' | Ava Matherne evaded a defender to cut to the middle of the box and send a right-footed dart into the bottom left of the goal. Ava Arroyo assisted Matherne, earning her first career assist.
  • 80' | Ava Arroyo kicked in a contested corner kick in the middle of the box, clinching the Jags' 2-0 shutout. The true freshman has scored in back-to-back games.

KEY STATS:
  • South Alabama has remained unbeaten for five consecutive Sun Belt openers.
  • The Jags earned their eighth consecutive victory over Troy.
  • Ava Matherne's score marked the seventh of her career and the first of the season.
  • Sierra Giorgio recorded her 100th career save in the 78th minute. The sixth-year also earned her first solo clean sheet of the season.
