Jaguars Sweep Lady Hornets, Win Home Opener

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama soccer swept Alabama State 4-0 on Thursday, earning the Jaguars their first victory of the season.

KEY MOMENTS:
  • 22' | Zamiyah Hill found true freshman Julie Dirom, who then sent a strike into the top left of the net to score her first collegiate goal.
  • 57' | Aliya Gomes sent in an unassisted left-footer between the pipes.
  • 64' | Victoria Rocci sent a dot to Gomes on the bottom right side of the pitch. Gomes then found the goal, earning her first career brace.
  • 75' | Andrea Lazar sent in a strike on the far left side, scoring her first goal in a Jaguar uniform.

KEY STATS:
  • Aliya Gomes recorded the first brace of her collegiate career, scoring for the first time since Sept. 18, 2025. The Canadian forward entered the match having been named a MAC Hermann Trophy Forward to Watch.
  • South Alabama ousted the Lady Hornets in shots, shots on goal and corner kicks.
  • The Jags recorded nine shots on goal, a feat that only happened three times last season.
  • Mackenzie Smith punched in two saves, earning the sixth clean sheat of her career.
  • South Alabama had not scored four goals in a match since Sept. 21, 2025, when the Jags swept Southern MIss, 4-0.
  • Two out of three goalscorers were Jaguar newcomers. Julie Dirom scored South's inaugural goal of the season as a true freshman, and Andrea Lazar scored the second goal of her career as a Georgia transfer.

  • "Honestly, it meant a lot to me. I've worked so hard for moments like that, and scoring two goals in the same game was something I was really proud of. And being able to experience that moment with my teammates made it even more special."
