Jags Battle with Bulldogs, Draw 1-1

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama soccer's match against Samford on Sunday ended in a draw, with the Jags and the Bulldogs each scoring one goal.

SCORING MOMENTS:
  • 28' | Andrea Lazar cut to the center of the 18-yard box and sent a right-footed shot into the goal off an Aliya Gomes cross.
  • 88' | With just over two minutes on the clock, Samford's Alex Parr sent a header into the goal off a corner kick from Caroline Smith.

KEY STATS:
  • The Jags' goal against Samford marked the Bulldogs' first goal allowed this season, the reigning SoCon Champions having played three matches prior.
  • Mackenzie Smith punched out nine saves today, tying her career-best previously set at Mississippi State on Aug. 12.
  • South held Samford's Sam De Luca to only one shot on goal, holding the 2025 SoCon Player of the Year under her season average.
  • Andrea Lazar led the Jaguar attack with two shots, both on target. She is now tied with Aliya Gomes as South's leading scorer, both tallying two goals.
  • The Jags fought to draw with the Bulldogs despite 21-2 and 10-2 disadvantages in shots and shots on goal, respectively.
