ST. LOUIS, Mo. - A pair of South Alabama relievers,
Jacob Haley and
Brian Garmon II, were selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday afternoon.
Haley was selected 324th overall and slotted in the 11th round, while Garmon was off the board with the 444th pick in the 15th round of this year's MLB Draft. The pair of Jaguars selected by the Cardinals became the 10th and 11th players in South Alabama history to be drafted by the organization. The two became the 27th and 28th Jaguars selected in the MLB Draft under Head Coach
Mark Calvi, who has led the program since 2012. Their selections bring South Alabama's all-time total to 129 MLB Draft picks.
Right-hander
Jacob Haley wrapped up his third season in a Jaguar uniform and made nine appearances out of the bullpen in his 2026 campaign. The Huntsville, Alabama native struck out 20 hitters across 14.2 innings pitched for a 12.67 K/9, and allowed just five earned runs for a 3.07 ERA. The junior recorded a dominant stretch of three consecutive appearances against then-No. 18 Southern Miss, New Orleans, and Texas State combined for seven scoreless innings allowing just one hit across the three outings and totaled 11 strikeouts in that span. Haley delivered a career-high 3.2 innings pitched at Texas State, good for the first win of his career in the series finale. The season came to a close with the righty posting a 1-0 record and a save to his credit, while opponents hit just .151.
Haley turned in 24 career appearances at South Alabama and 35 total strikeouts across 27.2 innings pitched.
The second Jaguar hard-throwing right-hander in the form of
Brian Garmon II had success in the 2026 season as well, making 13 appearances on the backend highlighted by two saves. The senior similarly allowed five earned runs in 11.0 innings of work for a 4.09 ERA. Garmon earned his first save of the season at Southeastern Louisiana (1.1 IP) in four-out fashion, without allowing a hit and fanned a pair. The second save came in the rubber game at Georgia Southern, recording 1.2 scoreless innings and struck out the final hitter with the tying and winning runs in scoring position to shut the door for the series victory and 13-12 final score. The Cumming, Georgia native graduated from South Alabama this year after spending his second season with the program (Georgia State transfer).
Garmon delivered three scoreless innings this summer for the West Virginia Black Bears in the MLB Draft League and struck out five hitters.
