MOBILE, Ala. – Former South Alabama Football linebacker
Darius McKenzie, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, was selected 23rd overall by the Toronto Argonauts in the 2026 Canadian Football League Draft Tuesday night.
McKenzie is the first Jaguar to be drafted to a professional organization since Darrell Luter Jr. was drafted by the National Football League's San Francisco 49ers in 2023.
McKenzie transferred to South Alabama from Maine ahead of the 2024 season and spent two years in a Jaguar uniform. During his time with the Jags, he tallied 144 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, five pass breakups and one forced fumble. McKenzie was named All-Sun Belt Conference Honorable Mention after the 2025 campaign. The Canadian was also stellar in the classroom, earning CSC Academic All-District honors in back-to-back years.
