Southern Miss Secures Series with Extra-Inning, Walk-Off Walk

HATTIESBURG, Miss. | Julia Glasgow drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth to secure the series for Southern Miss and hand South Alabama a 3-2 loss Saturday afternoon at the Southern Miss Softball Complex.

Quotable – head coach Becky Clark
- On the loss: "We are up and down right now and not stringing things together. That's a tough loss for (Sydney) Scapin. I thought she did enough to win, but we sat on two runs, and never extended the lead. We keep working at being more consistent at the plate, but we haven't found that groove yet."

Key Moments
•    After missing out on a scoring opportunity their first time at the plate, the Jaguars came through with a run in the top of the second as Brooklynn Bockhaus delivered a two-out, RBI-single to left, scoring Sydney Stewart (double) to give South the lead (USA, 1-0)
•    South Alabama added another run in its half of the third as Virginia Mambelli blasted a 1-2, two-out pitch to center off of Madilyn Graham to double the lead (USA, 2-0)
•    The Golden Eagles were able to scratch across a run the next half inning as Abbi Troquille dropped in a lead-off double center to begin the next half inning – the first hit allowed by Sydney Scapin (8-9) – and with two outs, the third baseman moved to third on a wild pitch before coming home on Hannah Christian's RBI-single in left (USA, 2-1)
•    USM threatened to do more damage as Carrie Green reached on an infield single and Christian advanced to third on the play after a Jaguar error, but with runners at the corners, Scapin was able to get a fly out to center to maintain the one-run advantage
•    The Golden Eagles loaded the bases with one out in their half of the fifth, but Scapin struck out Green and then retired Madison Johnson on a fly out to center to strand the runners and maintain the one-run lead
•    Kayce Bennett tied the game up (2-2) with one out in the bottom of the sixth – her fourth of the season – when the ball became dislodged from Presley Lively's glove when she collided with the wall and went over the fence
•    In the bottom of the seventh, Christian reached on a two-out error and advanced to scoring position when the ball was ruled to have come in contact with a dead-ball area, Green was intentionally walked, but Scapin was able to get a fly out to end the inning and send the game into extras
