FORT COLLINS, Colo. – South Alabama women's basketball will face Alcorn State in the first round of the 2026 Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) at 3 p.m. CDT on Saturday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex in Lorman, Miss., the WNIT announced on Monday. The berth marks the Jags' first postseason appearance since 2019.

This season's berth marks South Alabama's fifth WNIT appearance in program history. The Jags' most recent appearance was in 2019, when they advanced to the second round before falling to Wyoming (78-71 on March 24).

The Jags enter the WNIT with a 16-18 overall record, including a seven-game win streak before they lost to JMU in the Sun Belt Tournament Quarterfinals. Throughout the tournament, they boasted an All-Tournament team member in Chrysta Narcisse and averaged 41.6% from the field, 36.5% from beyond the arc and 78.9% at the charity stripe.

South Alabama boasts four leaders across the five major statistical categories, including Amyah Sutton (11.67 PPG), Cordasia Harris (8.76 RPG, 54 BLK), Daniela Gonzalez (89 AST) and Diawna Carter-Hartley (51 STL).

South Alabama is 7-4 against Alcorn State, their last contest ending in a 77-73 loss on Dec. 11, 2002. The Braves are led by Nakia Cheatham, who leads the team with 13.17 points per game, 7.60 rebounds per game, 71 steals, 31 blocks and 936 minutes played.
