KALAMAZOO, Mich. – South Alabama women's basketball fell to Western Michigan on Saturday, 73-67. The Jaguars went 1-for-2 in the MAC-SBC Challenge this season.
KEY MOMENTS:
- Offensive struggles stalled South Alabama early, the Jaguars going 1-for-7 from the field. However, the Jaguars would answer with a 12-6 run to end the quarter on top, 16-14.
- South Alabama would continue momentum into the second quarter, shooting 66.7% from the field, 62.5% from downtown and 100% from the charity stripe. The Jaguars would outshoot the Broncos in every category.
- A Cordasia Harris layup would extend the Jaguars' lead to nine early in the third quarter, their largest lead of the day.
- The Broncos' backcourt would turn up the heat late in the third quarter, holding the Jaguars to a three-minute scoring drought to end the quarter.
- Heading into the fourth quarter, the Broncos scored five early points, giving them a three-point lead – their first since the first quarter. They would continue to build, outsourcing the Jaguars 17-11 and ultimately defeating them 73-67.
KEY STATS:
- The Jaguars shot 45.3% overall, 36.8% from beyond the arc, and 75.0% from the free-throw line.
- Daniela Gonzalez led the Jaguars' offense, scoring 18 points and shooting 6-for-14 from the field, 3-for-7 from downtown and 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
- In the first half, Tamara Ortiz scored 14 points, shot 75.0% from the field and went 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
